I thought the 54mm Napoleonic game laid on by Victrix, looked absolutely stunning (all pictures clickable).
It was clearly set somewhere in Spain, with a stream running down the centre of the table, and some stunning scratch-build buildings.
There were a couple of hundred figures a side, mostly from the Victrix ranges, but also a few that I think are Italieri. They used a simple set of Victrix rules.
The figures were organised into battalions, each 20 or so strong, each figure mounted on a 40mm base (I'd have been tempted to use 30mm frontage, but that's just me).
Above, there was a pretty Portuguese battalion on the British left.
The French, below, looked splendid. That's a converged Grenadier battalion in the foreground. THe second photo has a converged battalion of Voltiguers,
The French columns were screened by Voltiguers. The column on the right was Italian.
Shown below, there was a pretty column of red-coated Swiss, marching though a village.
Finally, below is a very striking unit of Italieri Malmelukes.
I didn't hear about prizes, but if this participation game didn't win anything, I'd be very disappointed! Much kudos to Victrix.

Absolutely agree - that was just pure, gorgeous eye-candy.
ReplyDeleteThe day they make a box of 95th Rifles, I'm so going to get enough 54mm terrain and a set of rules for *small* skirmish on a 4'x4' with that range.
Thats quite an undertaking & nicely done. What size was the table?
ReplyDeleteRegards HGA.
Skirmish be damn'd! Needs a table 20' long with a couple of thousand of the blighters on it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe Corunna game looked good, too, with the great scenery and models, but the 54mm game was participation, which I personally always score double.
HGA, I found myself wondering that today. Perhaps 5' or 6' by 10'? Hard to judge with the taller figures on it.

one of the best tables, very interesting and well-painted miniatures. I very much enjoyed it myself.
ReplyDeleteSuperbes figurines!! bravo pour le travail de peinture.
ReplyDeleteDamn! I somehow missed this game???? But it looks very cool indeed!
ReplyDeleteT'was indeed cool Ray, it had a very toy-gaming quality about it, like Little Wars or the battle in Young Winston, but with fantastic 2012 production values.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Simon
I really liked this too. Thanks for taking the pics as I didn't...
ReplyDeleteAmazing looking figures and terrain - all the more impressive at 54mm! Too bad Italeri didn't make those in 28mm! Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteThey did look great.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike! Didn't see you there, I missed too many people, this year.
Aside from this game I also liked the 28mm Baltic War game, Corunna and the Redan. The 15mm Nappy game (Aspern Essling?) was also very impressive.

ReplyDeleteI was there and I agree totally. Some of my gaming mates, now hitting the 50 year-old barrier are seriously looking into these figures, easier to paint with bad eye-sight
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! Looks like an awesome game, probably the best 54mm game I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI certainly caught the eye alright, great pics
ReplyDeletewow, super eye candy, thanks for sharing the pics!
ReplyDeleteSince I did not make Salute this year (again) I can only go by the photos, but it must have been one impresse game indeed. Could never imagine myself gaming in these large scales though.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, for all the posts! Burkhard, I reckon I could give gaming with them a go especially if the units had a few more minis, or if I could think of them as companies.
ReplyDeleteJust the right scale for a game at a huge event like Salute.
Cheers, SImon
I agree - and have written as much on my Blog (Salute First Thoughts). It really was a stunning display with some of the very best scratch-built building I have ever seen on a wargame table.
